In some cases, you might want to let the child decide on the decor for the nursery. This could make the child feel more at home when he or she gets to your house since he or she will have a space of one’s own.
Give your child time to adjust
Moving in with a new family is a huge deal for a child. While you might be ready to go out and have a big celebration, the child may prefer a low-key day that allows him or her to adjust to the significant change. A toddler might not care about the move, but an older child might be overwhelmed if you have a big party with a lot of new people. Instead, give the child time to adjust to the family and let him or her slowly meet people. You can always plan a shindig later.

All of this might be overwhelming so make sure that you are there to provide support when necessary. Older children might also need someone impartial to speak with about certain matters, so you may need to work with a counselor or someone in a similar role.
